Online M.S.W.
Flexible Format. Local Practicum. Study from Anywhere.
Walla Walla University’s online M.S.W. program offers the same accredited, clinically focused education as our campus-based options—delivered in a format designed for busy, working professionals. Practice classes meet live via Microsoft Teams, while theory-based courses are completed asynchronously, allowing you to balance your studies with work, family, and life.
Online students benefit from close faculty support, remote practicum placement assistance in their local area, and connection to the same values-driven WWU community. Whether you're located in a major city or a rural setting, you can complete your M.S.W. from wherever you call home—without compromising on quality or connection.
Key Facts – Online Program
- Theory courses are asynchronous; practice courses meet live via Microsoft Teams on Tuesday and Thursday evenings
- Regular Standing begins Fall 2025; Advanced Standing begins Fall 2026
- Complete your practicum in your own community, with guidance from WWU’s placement team
- Online program is regionally accredited through NWCCU and in the process of CSWE accreditation (applicant status submitted)
Applying to the Online Program
While the core admissions process is the same as for our campus-based programs, online applicants should be aware of a few additional considerations:
- Technology readiness:
Online M.S.W. students are expected to have high-speed internet (25 Mbps or greater) and a device capable of running Microsoft Teams (with webcam and microphone). Students should also be able to access Office 365 and OneDrive, which are provided to currently enrolled WWU students. As part of the application process, you’ll complete a short technology assessment to confirm readiness for the online learning environment.
- Online readiness:
Successful online applicants typically demonstrate strong time management skills, self-motivation, and academic readiness—reflected in a minimum GPA of 3.0 for Regular Standing and 3.25 for Advanced Standing.
- Program placement and transitions:
Students are expected to remain in the format (online or face-to-face) to which they are admitted through graduation. In exceptional cases, a transition may be petitioned—but must meet the admissions criteria of the receiving format and be approved by the program.
Visit our Admissions & Deadlines page for a full list of admissions requirements and important dates.
What Makes the Online Program Unique
- Built for working professionals. With a mix of asynchronous coursework and live evening practice classes, the online M.S.W. is designed to fit your schedule—not disrupt it.
- The same trusted program, now online. This is the same accredited M.S.W. program Walla Walla University has offered for nearly 40 years—now in a flexible format built for today’s students.
- Stay rooted while you advance. Complete your practicum in your own community, applying what you learn in a local setting with support from WWU’s experienced field placement team.
- Connected learning community. Even at a distance, you’ll build lasting relationships with faculty and classmates through live class sessions, group interaction, and faculty mentorship.
