The department also offers a literature minor and a writing minor in addition to language minors in Arabic, French, Hebrew, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish through its affiliation with Adventist Colleges Abroad.
English Major (Bachelor of Arts)
Students who earn a BA in English will take core classes and select one of the following three emphases:
- The emphasis in literature focuses on the careful study of literary texts and serves as excellent preparation for graduate studies in literature, law, or medicine.
- The emphasis in creative writing focuses on writing in various genres and on the close study of literary texts as models for your creative work.
- The emphasis in secondary teaching is designed to be taken with the B.Ed. in Secondary Education and prepares you to teach English or language arts in middle school and high school. Together, these courses and the B.Ed. teach the content and skills required for certification by the State of Washington.
