The Walla Walla University Department of Music will present their annual Christmas Concert for the community this December 9 in the University Church. The concert will be performed both at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9 in the University Church. The 8 p.m. performance will be livestreamed at wallawalla.edu/concert.
The Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Brandon Beck, along with the University Singers and ICantori, directed by Kraig Scott, will perform a variety of classic pieces highlighting a number of composers.
The Christmas concert centers around the theme “Gifts for a King,” inspired by the biblical story of the three gifts the infant Jesus received from his visitors from the East. The music department hopes to share the message that each of us can bring a unique gift to the Christ child.
The evening’s music will include a variety of well known sacred hymns and Christmas carols such as “Carol of the Drum” and “What Child is This?” The program will also incorporate works based on traditional Greek and Latin texts and a Nigerian carol. Two pieces will feature the harp and alto recorder. The program will feature Christina Rosetti’s “In the Bleak Midwinter,” which contains lyrics that reflect the spirit of giving back to Christ.
The University Church is located at 212 SW Fourth St. in College Place. The event is free and open to the public.
