ICantori, the select choir of Walla Walla University, will present their spring concert titled “A Sense of Place” on April 11 at 7 p.m. in the Melvin K. West Fine Arts Center auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

The repertoire for this year’s concert will include both sacred and secular works, focused on finding a sense of place. This first half of the concert will celebrate having a sense of place on the planet, within the community, and within the university. 

The second half of the concert will invite the audience to consider their sense of place historically. The program will feature a multi-movement work titled “Amendment: Righting Our Wrongs,” a work composed by Melissa Dunphy in 2020 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment and the right for women to vote. According to Kraig Scott, professor of music and director of ICantori, the choir asks its audience to be brave as they consider their sense of place, both physically and historically. 

ICantori is an auditioned ensemble selected from WWU’s student body. The choir has enjoyed a history of touring since 1929. Renamed ICantori, meaning “the singers” in Italian, in 1979, the ensemble has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Russia, and Romania.

The Fine Arts Center is located at 200 S. College Ave., College Place.
