On June 16 Walla Walla University will celebrate its 2019 commencement. The program will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the WWU Centennial Green. The commencement speaker is Karl Haffner, a 1985 WWU alumnus and the father of a 2019 graduate. Apart from authoring multiple award-winning books, including Soul Matters, The Cure for the Last Daze, No Greater Love, and Caught Between Two Worlds, Haffner loves spending time with his family, traveling the world, running, and education. Haffner pastors the Kettering Seventh-day Adventist Church in Dayton, Ohio, and works with Kettering Health Network in its spiritual mission department.
He is passionate about sharing with others the message of God’s grace and acceptance, perhaps even in short, snappy tweets. For example, in Haffner’s “Teaching in a Tweet,” he wrote, “Ephesians 1:3-11 … answers three big questions: Where did we come from? Our Creator, made in His image. Who are we? Children of God. Why are we here? To live ‘unity’ for the praise of God’s glory.”
Haffner’s commencement address is titled “Investing for the Future.”
