Walla Walla University has partnered with the City of College Place and Columbia Rural Electric Association to open the first public-access electric vehicle charging station in College Place. The charging station is located at The Express/Shell gas station, 406 S. College Ave., at the corner of 4th Street and College Avenue.
Two vehicles can charge concurrently at parking spaces that are designated specifically for the charging station. Charging is available free. The station offers a level two charger that will provide up to 26 miles range per hour of charge for a full battery electric vehicle and up to 12 miles range per hour of charge for a plug-in hybrid vehicle.
At a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the station on Dec. 10 WWU president John McVay said, “We’re delighted that we can offer faculty, staff, students, and visitors access to a new resource, and we’re grateful for our partners.”
