Wind Symphony to perform for WWU 125th anniversary celebration concert during homecoming weekend

The Walla Walla University Department of Music will present “JoyRide,” a concert by the WWU Wind Symphony, on Saturday, April 29, at 4 p.m. in the Walla Walla University Church. The performance will take place during WWU alumni homecoming weekend, April 27-30, for the annual Alleluias and Meditations concert.

Under the direction of Brandon Beck, associate professor of music, the Wind Symphony will begin the concert with “Joyride” a composition by Michael Markowski, which is based on the closing movement of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, “Ode to Joy.” The opening piece will set the tone for the concert, which will feature songs of joy and celebration in honor of the WWU 125th anniversary celebration this year.

The concert will also include pieces by J.S. Bach, David Gillingham, James Curnow, Claude T. Smith, and Alfred Reed.

The Walla Walla University Church is located at 212 S.W. Fourth Street in College Place. The concert is free and open to the public.
