ASDAH 2025: Tides and Transformations
September 3-7, 2025 Walla Walla University
The 2025 ASDAH conference will be hosted by Walla Walla University at the Rosario Beach Marine Laboratory, just north of Seattle, Washington, September 3-7, 2025.
Rosario Beach is a spectacular setting on the Pacific Ocean and a perfect location for fellowship, worship, good food, and, of course, scholarship. We look forward to sharing historical research and spending time together, all while surrounded by the outstanding natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
We want to specifically thank the following sponsors:

Tides and Transformations
Authors are invited to submit abstracts of papers that approach the broad theme and implied points of connection and change—“Tides and Transformations” – from any perspective: historical, archeological, political, sociological, philosophical, textual, or any other theoretical model. Possible topics may include work on global currents and connections; environmental histories; cultural, economic, religious, intellectual, or ideological exchanges; social movements; immigration; and other patterns of significant historical change.
Papers that resonate with the theme are particularly welcome, but all abstracts will be considered, including those addressing pedagogical issues in postsecondary education for our field. Pre-formed panels or papers designed to be presented with another paper are welcome, although individual papers that are accepted will be placed on panels with others that are similarly themed. Pre-formed panels or papers intended for presentation in tandem should submit all abstracts for the proposed panelists in one submission, with clear titles and names for each presenter.
SDA academy or high school history and social studies teachers are invited to contribute papers and plan sessions dealing with pedagogical issues and challenges in secondary education.
Papers should be no longer than 8-10 pages, or about 20 minutes when read aloud.
For session planning, please contact Hilary Dickerson.
Rosario Lodging
Rosario Beach Cabins
While there are hotels a short drive away, the best and least expensive option is to stay in the cabins at Rosario. Lodging options include a range of cabins ideal for private or shared use. Use this link to find out more about available cabins and use coupon code “ASDAH2025” when requesting your reservation to access these dates. It will be helpful for the organizers to indicate on the form how many beds will be used, as bedding and towels are provided for this event.
There is a dormitory with two-person private rooms and a shared bathroom that would be ideal as an inexpensive option for students. Many cabins have two or more rooms that would make sharing possible as desirable.
Other lodging options are available nearby, including small inns in Anacortes and Oak Harbor and larger chain hotels in Mt. Vernon and Burlington.

Travel Information
For attendees arriving by air, the best option will likely be Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). Paine Field (PAE) in Everett is closer, but with more limited airline options. Sea-Tac is about a two-hour drive from Rosario, traffic depending. Paine is about an hour.
Car rentals are available at both Sea-Tac and Paine.
Sabbath Activities
We are planning to worship together after breakfast Sabbath morning and then head out to enjoy local history and God's creation together.
We are organizing three optional excursions. Payment will be collected as part of the registration process ahead of time.
Excursions:
